International learning experiences in speech-language pathology, communication, and related health and human sciences for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students.
Therapy Abroad’s Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) study abroad programs connect students with international learning experiences in speech-language pathology, communication, and related health and human sciences. With options for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students, our programs offer different ways to explore the profession—from culturally immersive study tours to hands-on, community-based learning and specialized training. Eligibility and academic focus vary by program.
All Therapy Abroad CSD programs are supervised by professional, U.S.-licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Whether you’re exploring how speech therapy services are delivered in another country or participating in supervised learning activities with local communities, professional guidance is central to your experience.
Programs such as our Ireland & Scotland Speech Therapy Study Tour emphasize cultural exploration, professional exchange, and learning how speech-language pathology services are delivered in other countries. Through site visits, workshops, and conversations with professionals, students explore different healthcare and education systems and consider how language, culture, and community influence communication and care. These experiences prioritize learning about international practice rather than participating directly in therapy activities.
Programs such as Belize, Bulgaria & Greece, and Thailand offer more opportunities for active participation alongside SLPs and local partners. Depending on the itinerary, experiences may include communication camps, guided clinical observation, therapy-related activities, and learning in schools, clinics, or community settings. These programs combine cultural immersion with opportunities to connect classroom concepts to practice, with student participation guided by professional supervisors. Activities and settings differ by destination and program.
Our specialized Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) study abroad programs give students the opportunity to explore specific interests within speech-language pathology while learning in a cross-cultural setting. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) programs focus on communication tools and strategies for individuals with complex communication needs, combining focused instruction with supervised learning experiences. Our autism-focused CSD program offers a more concentrated opportunity to explore autism and communication through supervised international learning. For students interested in language and cultural responsiveness, Spanish language immersion programs combine language learning with opportunities to explore speech-language services in Spanish-speaking communities.
Across our CSD programs, you’ll find professional SLP supervision, cultural immersion, opportunities to learn from local perspectives, and support from the Therapy Abroad team. Every experience is designed to encourage cultural humility, build confidence, and help you connect your academic interests with future study and professional practice. The destination and activities may change, but our commitment to supported, purposeful learning remains the same.
Think about what you hope to gain: a broader understanding of international service provision, more hands-on learning, or deeper exploration of a topic such as AAC. Review each program’s eligibility, itinerary, learning activities, and observation opportunities to find the best fit. Students seeking observation hours or academic credit should confirm their university’s requirements before booking.

Eligible programs offer the option to earn college credit through Drexel University, Therapy Abroad’s School of Record. Drexel is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and documents and awards credit for participating students. This academic pathway allows students to connect international learning with their educational goals. Credit availability varies by program, and students should confirm transfer approval with their home institution before enrolling for credit.
Therapy Abroad offers both open-enrollment student programs and customized faculty-led CSD study abroad programs. Students can join an existing experience, while university faculty can collaborate with our team to develop a program around their course objectives, academic calendar, and students’ learning needs. Our university partnerships bring together educational programming, professional supervision, travel logistics, and on-site support.
