Therapy Abroad connects international experience with learning in the health and human sciences. Opportunities include student programs, customized faculty-led experiences, academic credit options, clinical education, and professional continuing education. The academic structure depends on the program, your stage of study, and the requirements of your university or profession.
An international setting creates opportunities to consider how culture, language, resources, and service systems influence practice. Observation, supervised activities, discussions with professionals, and reflection help connect those experiences with academic questions. A camp, school visit, or community activity becomes a learning opportunity through preparation, guidance, and thoughtful review.
Awards and documents credit for the approved academic experience
Drexel University serves as a School of Record for eligible Therapy Abroad academic credit offerings. A School of Record awards and documents credit for the approved academic experience. Available courses, credits, registration requirements, and fees depend on the offering.
Your home institution decides whether and how those credits transfer into your degree. Obtain approval from your advisor or study abroad office before enrolling in a credit option. Program participation alone does not automatically award academic credit.
Through SLP Abroad, students can explore semester study in communication sciences and disorders in a global setting. This format connects coursework with a longer period of cultural and community learning. Check the semester program for current availability, course offerings, enrollment steps, and credit arrangements.
Guided observation, direct clinical contact, academic credit, and continuing education credit are distinct. Each has its own purpose and documentation requirements. Program hours depend on the actual activities and relevant supervision; time abroad is not automatically clinical time.
We offer opportunities for graduate SLP clinical placements and externships, OT fieldwork, and DPT clinical education. Placement planning must address learning objectives, supervision, site suitability, evaluation, and the university’s approval process. Availability and placement length vary.
Clinical Fellowship opportunities serve eligible SLP graduates at a different stage of professional preparation. The placement must be reviewed against the applicable certification requirements and host-country authorization. A fellowship is not interchangeable with a student externship or a short-term observation program.
Faculty-led programs begin with your institution’s learning goals. Therapy Abroad works with faculty and international education teams to connect those goals with suitable destinations, partners, and activities. Academic instruction, assessment, and credit responsibilities should be defined in the program agreement.
School districts can develop international professional learning focused on cultural and linguistic diversity and the needs of their educators and related-service teams. Government training initiatives offer another setting for exchanging knowledge with teachers and healthcare workers.
International workshops combine professional learning with cultural context. Check each event for its learning objectives, credit type, eligible professions, attendance requirements, and approval information. Continuing education acceptance depends on the relevant provider, credentialing organization, or licensing body.
Academic credit arrangements apply to specific offerings and institutions. Check the relevant program for its credit-granting institution or event-specific approval details, and discuss acceptance with your university or professional body.
Share the program description, learning objectives, proposed activities, supervision details, and any credit or hour documentation. For a clinical placement, confirm site approval and required agreements with your clinical education coordinator.
